Laurel High Adventure details for Ward Young Women Presidents
Hello Ward Young Women Presidents!
We are very excited about the first Corvallis Stake Laurel
High Adventure that is fast approaching.
We are hoping this letter gives you all the information you need to
prepare yourself and your girls. We also
do not want to overwhelm you, so please be in contact with us and we will help
in any ways we can! Please read this all
the way through and contact us with any questions.
Administrative
details
Registration:
Please continue to encourage girls to register if you have any that have not
already done so. The registration can be
found at CorvallisStakeYW.blogspot.com. Any adults going register at the same place. You can check what girls have registered at
this link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16paxnWn1sr1eL2JYbX99fJcfY0cHhsjBUfbKxNX2FXo/edit?usp=sharing
Medical Release
Forms: EVERY person attending this activity must have a hard copy of the
medical release form on site. The link
to this form is also at CorvallisStakeYW.blogspot.com. Please print the form and have each girl fill
it out. You will be responsible for
keeping the forms with you during the High Adventure for the girls in your
ward.
Cost: Each girl
is asked to pay $40-$50 (still waiting on final number from stake presidency)
to cover a portion of the cost of the event.
This is paid to individual wards with a tithing slip in the “other” category. This needs to be paid before the
activity. We do not want cost to be a
limiting factor for anyone, so financial assistance will be given to those who
need it.
Spiritual
Preparation
Young Women President Hour: On Friday
afternoon at the High Adventure, you will have an hour to meet with the young
women in your ward to lead a lesson/discussion with them. This time is to be used according to what you
feel your girls need. Please pray to
know what Heavenly Father would have you share with them during this unique time.
Song—“His Name”: We would like
to have a few times during this adventure singing this song all together. The more familiar the girls are with the song
beforehand, the easier it will be to sing all together. Here is the sheet music:
Traveling Devotional: As we drive in
our individual cars towards Melakwa we would like to discuss Elder Uchtdorf’s
BYU devotional address, “Can You Hear the Music?” The drive to Melakwa is
about 2 1/2 hours which allows for plenty of great discussion time….along with
some time to relax, chat, and sleep….whatever the young women would like to do.
We only have a “conversation topic" for the ride up as we’re
imagining the drive home we will have cars full of very tired young ladies!
Below
you will find a link to Elder Uchtdorf's talk and some supplemental pieces that
coordinate with his subject. Please take a moment to download the audio
so it can be played in each car. We are looking forward to some uplifting
discussion about this inspiring topic!

Physical Preparation
Part
of the purpose of this activity is to challenge the girls (and ourselves)
physically. The experience will be more
enjoyable if they have done some preparation beforehand. Please encourage them to take a few hikes
and/or bike rides if possible, and if it works, plan a weeknight activity or
two that involves a hike or bike ride. Another
useful part of an activity could be to have someone come to check the
functionality of their bikes and learn how to change a flat tire or fix the
chain.
Logistics
We
are asking each ward young women president to arrange for rides for the girls
in their ward as well as everything they will be bringing. Once you have confirmed girls that are
attending from your ward, see if you have enough to drive them (and their
stuff) up. If you don’t, check first
with us as a Stake to see what space we have with other leaders already
attending. Last resort will be to find
an additional driver from your ward.
When
girls and leaders get to the stake center on Thursday morning, they should
arrive already having eaten breakfast and bring their own lunch, snacks, and
water for the hiking/biking activity for that day. Any girls or leaders biking should come with
their bike fully functioning and ready to go!
Tents
are arranged at the ward level as well. Leaders
should not sleep in the same tent as youth, so please arrange accordingly. We will be sleeping by wards but within close
proximity to all girls in the stake—one big slumber party!
We
will have a trailer for transporting bikes.
Please let us know as soon as
possible how many bikes we will need to transport from your ward.
Packing
list will soon be available at CorvallisStakeYW.blogspot.com
soon.
We
are excited for this experience to share with you and the laurels in our
stake! Thank you for all you are doing
to help make this happen.
